Team Morgan

In November 2007, the American Morgan Horse Association and the American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust approved “Team Morgan,” an international, multi discipline competition program for Morgan youth ages 14-21. Team Morgan was developed to give additional opportunities to Morgan youth through an international venue. Educational activities don’t occur only in the classroom; they are developed through life opportunities. We plan to foster these activities through the following goals:

• Develop a competitive team of rider for international competition
• Provide educational opportunity for youth
• Cultivate horsemastership skills
• Promote team sportsmanship
• Serve as ambassadors for AMHA, AMHAY, and the Morgan breed
• Aid with breed promotion

Team Morgan is not just a riding competition. It is an opportunity to give Morgan youth of all riding styles a chance to show their skills through riding different horses and different breeds in an atmosphere conducive to learning.

Past Team Morgan competitions have included saddle seat competitions in South Africa and the Massachusetts Morgan Horse Show, as well as a competition in North Carolina in August 2009. A hunter seat competition took place in November 2011 at Stephens College in Missouri.

Donations and assistance are needed to help fund team uniforms and travel expenses. Please join us in making this happen for our youth and our breed. Contact AMHA President, Harry Sebring, or AMHA Executive Director, Julie Broadway, for more information.

AMHA also has developed a Team Challenge Program to encourage team building among Morgan youth, to raise awareness of the Team Morgan national and international opportunities, and to prepare younger Morgan youth for these opportunities.
